Sowers Action Community Center 2024-25 | Gokarneshwor

The Sowers Action Community Center at 01, Aanandapur Marg, Gokarneshwor-08 is home to our head office and to programmes that are open to the whole neighbourhood, free of charge.

Free language classes

Nepal sits between two major economies, and speaking their languages opens doors in the job market – yet private Mandarin courses are often unaffordable. Our Free Mandarin (Chinese) Language Class makes sure cost is not a barrier. Following strong demand, we added a Free Adult English Literacy Class, mainly for adults – especially mothers – who could not complete formal schooling and want to build reading, writing and digital skills.

Both courses follow a three-level curriculum (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced), each lasting three months, with an extra Hanzi (Chinese character) class for Mandarin learners. In FY 2024–25, 348 learners took part across four sessions – about 87 per session.

One learner, Dorje, joined the Mandarin class while working long hours as a waiter. He attended consistently and practised beyond the classroom; today he works full time as a professional translator.

Winnie Lam Library

The center also houses the Winnie Lam Library, which recorded 5,670 visits in FY 2024–25.

Figures from the Sowers Action Nepal Annual Report, FY 2024–25 (FY 2081–82 BS).
