Disaster Relief Work

Sowers Action is committed to providing immediate aid in times of disaster and emergency. Over the years, we have actively participated in several relief efforts to support communities affected by natural calamities. Our disaster relief work focuses on delivering essential supplies and services to affected areas, ensuring that the most vulnerable receive timely assistance. Below are the details of our recent disaster relief projects:


1. Jajarkot Earthquake Relief

Date: March 14th – 16th, 2024
In response to the devastating earthquake that struck Jajarkot in Nepal, Sowers Action initiated a comprehensive relief effort to support the affected communities in West Nepal. Over the course of three days, our team distributed relief packages to those in need. The earthquake tragically claimed the lives of many, with 42 individuals in Wards 3 and 5, and 51 others in Nalgad municipality, Ward 3 losing their lives.

Relief Activities:

  • March 14th – 15th: Distribution of relief packages to 300 families in Wards 3 and 5.
  • March 16th: Extended relief distribution to 500 families in Nalgad Municipality, Ward 3.

Relief Packages Included:

  • Hygiene Kit: Towels (5), Sanitary Pads (2), Bathing Soaps (2), Clothes Washing Soaps (2), Toothpaste (1), Toothbrushes (5)
  • Tarpaulins (18x33ft): 950 pcs
  • Blankets: 1,900 pcs
  • Buckets (15ltr.): 950 units
  • Jugs (2ltr.): 950 units

Collaborating Organizations: This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of Sowers Action Hong Kong, Sowers Action Nepal, and VCN, with funds supported by the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The distribution was successfully coordinated with the help of the Armed Police Force, Municipalities’ focal personnel, and volunteers from the Hundred Group.


2. 1st Emergency Flood Response

Date: October 22, 2024
In response to the devastating floods and landslides caused by the continuous rainfall from September 25-28, 2024, Sowers Action launched its first emergency flood relief operation. This initiative targeted the Kavre and Lalitpur districts, where heavy rains caused widespread damage, leaving thousands in need of assistance.

Relief Provided:

  • Essential food items
  • Solar lights for illumination during power outages
  • Blankets for warmth and shelter
  • Hygiene kits containing basic sanitation supplies

Beneficiaries: Over 397 affected families in Kavre and Lalitpur.

Distribution Team: Local volunteers from Sowers Action Nepal and the Hundred Group played a crucial role in ensuring that the relief reached the most vulnerable families.


3. 2nd Emergency Flood Response

Date: December 30, 2024
In December 2024, Sowers Action Nepal launched a second round of flood relief in response to the ongoing flooding and landslides. This time, the relief efforts were concentrated in Mandandeupur Ward 10 in the Kavre District, where more families had been affected by the floods.

Relief Provided:

  • Solar lights to provide light in the affected areas
  • Blankets for warmth during the cold months
  • Hygiene kits to ensure basic sanitation
  • Tarpaulins to provide temporary shelter and protection

Beneficiaries: More than 300 households and 1,200 individuals received relief materials.
